WOMAD
The festival was founded in 1982 by musician Peter Gabriel, and it has since traveled to various locations around the world, including the UK, New Zealand, Australia, and Spain. One of the most famous artists to have performed at WOMAD is the legendary South African musician and activist, Miriam Makeba, whose captivating performances have left a lasting impact on the festival’s history.
In the most recent edition of WOMAD, held in the UK, attendees were treated to an eclectic lineup of world-renowned artists from diverse backgrounds. Some of the standout performances included the energetic fusion of traditional and modern sounds by Afro Celt Sound System, the soul-stirring vocals of Salif Keita from Mali, and the mesmerizing dance beats of Asian Dub Foundation. The festival also featured workshops, art installations, and culinary delights from around the globe, creating a truly immersive experience for all senses. WOMAD continues to be a beacon of cultural exchange and artistic expression, bringing people together through the universal language of music and dance.
