Established in 1947, the Fringe paints the beautiful city of Edinburgh every August with a palette of more than 59,600 performances and 3,841 different shows performed in 322 venues. There’s no gatekeeping, no jury; everyone and anyone can participate, be it theater, comedy, dance, physical theater, circus, cabaret, children’s shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions, and events.

Is your funny bone itching for a tickle? You’re in luck because comedy is the largest section at the Fringe, thanks in part to the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

Don’t know where to start or how to plan your journey? Fear not, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society has got you covered. They publish the programme, sell tickets to all events from a central physical box office and website, and provide year-round advice and support to performers. Find them at their permanent location at the Fringe Shop on the Royal Mile, and during the festival at Fringe Central, dedicated to supporting participants.
